The pricing model for ValueCloud “Managed Kubernetes on Hetzner” consists of 2 elements:

1. through your ValueCloud account: you pay for K8s control plane management, depending on the cluster size (as expressed by the total volume of worker node resources; see “Resource Points”),
2. through your Hetzner account: you pay for the actual IaaS resources consumed (1:1 Hetzner pricing, no additional charge or handling free from ValueCloud).

On ValueCloud side, you effectively pay for our operator’s mantime to keep all K8s components in best shape.

What you get FREE of charge (as orchestrated by the ValueCloud provisioning engine):

• all Kubernetes components on worker nodes (you only pay for the control plane),
• all IaaS handling (initial setup, configuration and lifecycle management).

By default, “Managed Kubernetes on Hetzner” comes with a ValueCloud-managed shared Control Plane that is being managed and operated by senior-level professionals:

• Vanilla Kubernetes components / upstream compatibility,
• High Availability of K8s API (99,7%),
• daily backups,
• audit logging (optional).

The monthly price for control plane management is determined by the so called ‘Resource Points’, which corresponds to the sum of worker node CPUs and worker node RAM (see worker nodes / VM tab for details).

A dedicated control plane is available, as a custom setup.

All worker nodes come with the following features:

• Ubuntu Linux 20.04,
• all Hetzner locations supported,
• uses Hetzner placement groups (avoid scheduling worker nodes of the same pool on the same Hetzner VM host, for reliability reasons),
• workload-aware VM restarts (after security patches have been automatically applied),
• multiple node pools / multiple availability zones.

Resource Points = Sum of ( # of CPUs from all worker nodes + total RAM (in GB)) on all worker nodes.

Managed Kubernetes on Hetzner Cloud comes with the following default setup:

• nodes are being deployed with public IP addresses,
• software-defined, node-level firewalls (through Cilium network policies),
• encrypted traffic between nodes,
• configurable network security policies,
• support for K8s loadbalancer services with Hetzner loadbalancers.

Various custom configurations (e.g. additional firewalls or other additional security policies) are possible.

The following is included by default:

• Hetzner-native CSI driver for K8s persistent volumes (ReadWriteOnce),
• maximum storage capacity is limited to 16 x 10 TB per Node,
• default storage from VMs is included in pricing, additional consumption is being charged OnDemand.

The following Add-ons options are available through custom Professional Services:

• Managed Application-level Backup-as-a-Service,
• ValueCloud-managed File, Object- and Block-Storage,
• ReadWriteMany volumes.

All stated Hetzner prices are indicative. Prices are net / VAT to be added. Monthly commitment.

Example 1: 3 Worker Nodes à 4 vCPU and 8GB vRAM (= CPX31 machines), shared Control Plane

• Hetzner cost indication (directly charged to the customer): 3 x 16,72 € / mo. = 50,16 € / mo.
• ValueCloud cost: 3 x (4+8) = 36 Resource Points x 3 € = 108 € / mo.
• total price for customer: 158,16 € / mo.

Example 2: 5 Worker Nodes à 8 vCPU and 32GB vRAM, dedicated HA Control Plane (3x 2vCPU, 4GM vRAM)

• Hetzner cost indication: 5 x 40,47 € + 3 x 6,58 € = 222,09 € / mo.
• ValueCloud cost: 218 Resource Points x 3 € + 49€ Mgt. fee (for dedicated Control Plane) = 703 € / mo.
• total price for customer: 925,09 € / mo.
